A Little About Me
My name is Julie a.k.a Joolee, the Viet-Chinese American artist behind Jooleaf Studio!
I currently live in a little studio apartment with my Shiba boy, Hiro, and wonderful boyfriend, Eric! I never went to college, so finding a path while carrying the weight of uncertainty is something I’ve known for a very long time. Over the years, I’ve found myself in many different industries and jobs but being an artist has always been quietly waiting for me.
Even as a kid I was always creating. Whether it was with my hands or with words to pocket whatever was on my mind. I always tried to find a way to make things feel like home!
About Jooleaf Studio
My boyfriend, Eric, encouraged me to take my first pottery class in early 2023. Once I touched the clay for the first time I knew I found my medium.
In late 2024, I was laid off from my job. So for the next 9 months, I dove into pottery. I went to my local studio everyday and this is when pottery started to make sense. I spent 8-10 hours there a day, replacing my old work schedule with my hobby. And then eventually, it was a job! I was offered a part-time position to teach classes and I became an instructor.
I learned so much from teaching and continued to experiment in search of finding my own style. I made so many bowls and cylinders as demos for classes that, in time, turned into my series of Bawling Boy Mugs and Baobies! As I continued on, I started to try my hand at sharing my art.
I started to curate pop-up events with my cousins, and together we sold our craft at local businesses. From there, the world started to grow!
Jooleaf Studio was planted years ago, and slowly sprouted into my little “Joo-niverse”!
